November Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church, 7 to 9 pm.  Please do not arrive early -- there is another group meeting before us.  Wait for them to leave before you enter the room.  We will finalize plans for our next raffle rug.

At the October meeting, we decided on our challenge for the 2018 Rug Show: Take a Walk on the Wild Side: a Jungle Challenge.  Put your thinking cap on and come up with some creative designs to hook for the show.  You have almost two years to complete a jungle themed rug!

As always, there will not be a meeting in December.

Dates have been set for our winter hook ins.  Mark these dates on your calendars: Saturday, January 21, 2017 (site to be announced) and Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Cutchogue Library Community Room.  The January hook in will be our holiday celebration with a catered lunch -- for members only.  The February hook in is open to all.

When Pigs Fly

***** Please note:  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 7 PM.  Please DO NOT arrive early -- another group is meeting before hand. *****

Judy Warasila's original rug, When Pigs Fly, won first place at the Peconic Ruggers Rug Show this past weekend at Hallockville.  Other winners were: 2nd Place: Ham and Eggs by Louise Hulbert, 3rd Place: Fall Colors by June Bassemir, Favorite Pig: Gracy's Pig Pillow by Denise Johnson, and Best in Show: North Fork Bounty by Rhona Vandernoth.  We had a great turn out -- thanks to all the visitors who participated by voting for their favorites.

It was a hot and sticky weekend on the farm.  Many thanks to all the members who came to hang the show on Friday, and those who stayed to take it down on Sunday evening.  Special thanks to Louise and Barbara's husbands, our clean up crew.

Long Island Fiber Festival & June Meeting Time

We had interesting weather over the course of the three days of the Long Island Fleece and Fiber Fair at Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead. Thunderstorms rolled in on Friday as we set up, heat hit on Saturday with wild wind overnight that blew tents away, and cold temps on Sunday.  Here is a photo of the two Judys trying to stay warm on Sunday.

Please send healing thoughts to both Judy Lambros and Judy Warisilla, as they have both undergone surgery this month and are recovering.

The raffle rug is done and dusted and raffle tickets are available.  If you are a guild member, please take some to sell.  If you are not a guild member, please buy some!  Contact our treasurer Margaret at mtzenk@gmail.com.  Margaret also has the guild's supply of linen and monks cloth.  If you need either, let her know and she will bring it to the next meeting.

The Quiet Corner Guild in Connecticut is having a hook-in on Saturday, June 18, from 9 to 3 at the South Woodstock, CT Fairgrounds.  The cost is $15, which includes door prizes, a raffle ticket, snacks and beverages all day. $5 for walk-in vendor shopping only. Vendors: Benita Raleigh, Margaret Arraj, Sandy Mariecki, Yankee Peddler, Paisley Studio, Fluff & Peachy Bean, Donna Swanson, Joyce DiGregorio Design, Seaside Rug Hooking, and Raven's Gate Primitives.

May Meeting

Our May meeting will take place at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, 7 to 9 pm.  Bring your hooking and something for show and tell.

Several stalwart guild members manned the guild tent at the Long Island Fleece and Fiber Festival this past weekend.  It rained during set up in Friday.  Saturday was hot and sunny and sunscreen didn't keep us from getting sun burned.  On Sunday the wind nearly blew the tent over and dark clouds rolled in dropping the temperature.  It was a wild weekend of weather, for sure! Thank you one and all for coming out to set up, take down and demonstrate!

April Showers . . . and Our April Meeting

Our next meeting will take place on April 19, 2016, at the Riverhead Library, 5:30 to 8:30 pm.  As always, bring a project to work on, something to show off, and dinner, i you are so inclined, because our meeting will start so early.

We are all sending positive healing thoughts to our fearless leader, president Louise Hulbert, who is recovering from surgery.  Let's hope she feels well enough to attend the April meeting.

Thanks to Sue Egan for arranging the particulars of the May meeting, which will be held on May 17, 7 to 9 pm at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church.  The Church is also holding an event the Saturday before our meeting: The 5th Annual Douglas Moore Organ Concert will be held in the Church on Saturday, May 14th at 3 pm.  Two organists from Juilliard will be playing the Kilgen organ.  It's a wonderful event and all are invited.  Refreshments will follow the concert.

Here is some eye candy from the last meeting:

Sue Egan just sent this photograph of her sister Sally's latest rug -- two sweet spaniels.  What fun -- a really great background, too.

Members Only Hook In

Once again the guild will have its yearly celebration -- for members only -- on January 16, 2016 at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church, 10 to 3.  Lunch will be catered, so just bring along your current hooking project and anything you would like to share with the group.  And don't forget your annual dues! They are still only $20! Please let Louise know if you are coming so she can order the correct amount of food.

We would like to extend its sincere thanks to Sue Egan for her many years of service to the Peconic Ruggers as Treasurer.  Sue has taken great care of our funds as well as doing many other things from setting up rug shows to booking our venues.  She will still be around, and, knowing Sue, will still be helping out whenever its needed.  Thank you Sue!

We would also like to welcome our new Treasurer, Margaret Tripp-Zenk -- aka the fasted hooker east of the Mississippi.  Margaret is a long time member of the guild, an avid rug maker and a very generous guild member.  Thanks for taken on the job, Margaret.

We will have another Saturday hook in in February which will be open to all.  It will probably be held at the Riverhead Library, but the room is not booked yet.  Stay tuned for more information.
The Peconic Ruggers, started by Gail Horton in 1996, is a rug hooking guild from the North Fork of Long Island, New York. We meet monthly at the beautiful Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead, New York.
