Peconic Ruggers at 2014 North Fork Designer Show House

Several members of the guild are selling hand-hooked rugs and other decorative items at the North Fork Designer Show House, going on now!  This is a rare opportunity to see and purchase these finely made works of art, so be sure to stop by and see us, and all the other wonderful vendors from the North Fork.

November Meeting

Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 7 pm at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church on the Main Road.  Bring your hooking, of course!  This will be our last meeting until the new year.

We had terrific attendance at the last meeting.  Here are some photographs of what we are working on.

Several members will be participating in the North Fork Designer Show House Christmas show and sale at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church Manse.  We will have a small room chock a block with hooked rugs and ornaments for sale.  Please stop by and see us.

Another Wonderful Rug Show

We couldn't have asked for a better Saturday to start our Bi-Annual rug show.  Hallockville was decorated to the hilt -- cornstalks and chrysanthemums everywhere!  There were cows and horses and sheep, crafters galore, and, of course, a big barn full of hand-hooked rugs.  A few members sold finished rugs, the vendors (including me) sold lots of wool and patterns, and lots of people expressed interest in learning how to hook.  Such a great weekend.  The rain late on Sunday didn't even dampen our spirits.

Calling All Members!

Here's a heads up:  our next meeting will not be the third Tuesday of September!  We will instead meet on Tuesday, September 9, 2014,  7 to 9 PM, at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church, to do last minute preparations for the rug show the following weekend.  Please bring whatever rugs you want included in the show to the meeting, along with the appropriate printed labels that Louise will be emailing to you shortly.  This will be the last day rug entries will be accepted.

If you can help with the show -- hanging rugs, selling raffle tickets, demonstrating, teaching a make-and-take class, taking the show down -- please contact Louise at peconicruggers@yahoo.com.

Because the show will be held in tandem with the Hallockville Fall Festival, we are sure to have a fabulous turn out.  Please participate and help make this show the best one yet!

Combining Rug Hooking & Braiding

Several guild members spent this past Friday and Saturday learning to add braids to hooked mats from Kris McDermott, co-author of Combining Rug Hooking & Braiding, Basics, Borders & Beyond.
Kris brought several pieces of her own, as well as some really well-done visual aids to share with us. We all brought 2 small hooked pieces, one a 6 inch square with a 2.25 circle left unhooked, and a 6-inch circle.  There was a sharp learning curve on Friday, but we were all a little more relaxed and experienced on Saturday morning.  By Saturday afternoon, we were all beaming with pride at our accomplishments.

March Meeting

Another relaxing and interesting hook in took place on March 18th. Lots of pictures below. Don't forget we are meeting again at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church next month, Tuesday, April 15th, because the Riverhead Historical Society is undergoing renovations. See you then!

February Winter Hook In

The Peconic Ruggers Hook In on February 15th had a good turnout despite the threat of snow. The pot luck event was enjoyed by all, with a delicious spread of food from appetizers to desserts brought by our members. The rugs were beautiful, as always, and the conversation was interesting and varied. We are all looking forward to our next hook ins this summer during July and August.

The Peconic Ruggers, started by Gail Horton in 1996, is a rug hooking guild from the North Fork of Long Island, New York. We meet monthly at the beautiful Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead, New York.
